Holistic Nutrition: What does it mean to you?

The term ‘holistic’ is packed with subjective meaning and can stir divisive emotions. The Oxford language dictionary defines holism as a philosophy in which the parts of something are intimately interconnected and can only be understood in reference to the whole.

But, “what does that mean?” you ask. It means that the required parts for health are going to vary for the individual whole. Everything that makes a person unique is going to factor into their necessary components for optimal health and longevity. So for me, holistic nutrition is not a list of items to eat or not to eat, nor is it a specific set number of macro nutrient ratios. Holistic nutrition requires getting to know yourself and what works for you. Everything from your heritage to daily schedule will come into play when discovering your appropriate combination of foods, exercise and lifestyle factors. While fast food may not be ideal for obtaining your optimal health, allowing yourself to feel guilty or stressed about making a less than ideal choice is also not beneficial. Holistic nutrition is about balance and understanding why you make the decisions you make and how they make you feel.

My hope is that Kalee’s Holistic Kitchen can be a place, both physically and virtually, where you can gain the necessary education to discover what YOU need to feel your best and live life to it’s fullest. Over time, I hope this blog and website can be a place where you find both inspiration and practical, scientifically backed, information to help you navigate the world of nutrition and overall health.
