September Updates

September Updates from Table Root Farm

The first week of September was just about over before I even realized August had ended.  Our lives have been so full of activity and new endeavors that I clearly can’t keep up!  The biggest news is that the farm house is officially available for rent on Airbnb and I couldn’t be more excited to share that incredible space with people visiting the area or just looking to escape the city for a couple days.  Anyone who mentions they heard about the listing from my newsletter will receive 20% off their stay, so share with friends and family!

I plan to continue having cooking classes at the farm so you can also check the calendar for classes you may be interested in or reach out to me with a class you’d like to do with friends or family.

The garden has received its late summer overhaul and I can tell you that next year I will wear a full, bee keeper style, suit when pulling the cucumber vines from the garden arch because I was itchy for days after pulling those vines from overhead! The last of the squash vines were deposited in the compost along with the squash bugs that were reproducing at astonishing rates.  I did a second planting of a few winter squashes and will keep my fingers crossed that we have a mild November allowing me to get a full second harvest of squash.  My children will hope for a deep freeze prior to harvest.  I just cannot convince them that squash is good, though I’m starting to believe it’s more about standing their ground at this point. Personally, I cannot wait for the kale, rainbow chard, and beets to mature as my favorite salads start with those hearty & earthy bases.  I’ve also attempted watermelon radishes once again and will keep my fingers crossed that I’ve finally hit the right mix of soil and weather to grow my own.

I hope that everyone here in the south is enjoying the natural mood boost that comes from our gorgeous fall weather and that you take a little time each day to get outside and see what the natural world has provided for your viewing pleasure!
