Welcome to November friends!
In the event you are ever wanting to celebrate Halloween with real food instead of candy, I found inspiration for the perfect Halloween use of spaghetti squash yesterday at https://www.kudoskitchenbyrenee.com/pesto-spaghetti-squash-pumpkin-halloween/#recipe. I used a homemade pesto, and added local, free range pork sausage from Riverview Farms and I must say it was quite delicious and the perfect addition to our cul-du-sac festivities, though trying to feed spaghetti squash to neighbors on Halloween may forever have me blacklisted as the strange neighbor who only makes ‘healthy’ food.
Just to keep the precipitation theme of my newsletters going, we had received exactly ZERO drops of rain since Helene’s deluge until this morning when I walked out onto the deck to let the dogs out and was shocked to find drops falling from the sky. It lasted about 10 minutes and did not result in any actual rainfall, but I’ll take it.
As I had hoped the rain from Helene did result in a very happy fall garden and with no temps below 50 in the forecast, it looks like we will continue to have flowers, cucumbers, greens, beets, peas, radishes, and chard for the foreseeable future. I may even plant some more kale and radishes this week! My first ever watermelon radish has me inspired to keep on trying to grow stuff. I have attempted to grow watermelon radishes three times prior and never got so much as a sprout so the beauties pictured here are feeling like a complete win and I will actually consider it a win if I manage to accomplish this a second time.

The farmhouse continues to rent well and I am feeling more confident in my ability to manage a short term rental. I have really enjoyed getting to know a little about the people who come to stay when they are open to saying hi. My class options are becoming fewer as the rental dates increase, but I do have two openings left for my Menopausal Nutrition class next Thursday from 5-8 pm if you are interested in joining us. We are looking forward to having a conversation about the overwhelming amount and confusing information that is out there while making a series of dishes that helps us to focus on the basics of what science suggests is best for those of us who have reached 40.
As the holiday season approaches, I encourage each of you to set aside some time whenever possible, even if it’s just 10-15 min, to breathe, reflect and enjoy the chaos around you.
All my best,
Kalee
