Happy New Year from Table Root Farm

Welcome to 2024.  I hope everyone had a wonderful first day of the year and that you have hope, joy and adventure in your plans for the year ahead.  I am extremely excited for the plans I have put in place for Table Root Farm in 2024 and I look forward to sharing as much of it as possible with all of you.  Below is the upcoming schedule and if you’re comfortable, you can then go on to read about progress at the farm.  If you missed my blog post on reflecting before setting resolutions, you can read it here to help guide your path forward this year.

I will also be starting a Holistic Health book club in conjunction with Jenny Herman from Weigh Better with Jenny and Kate Seng of Poe & Company Bookstore.  The first month will be a choice between two books depending on your age.  They are both by Stacy Simms and are geared towards athletic & active women.  Roar is for females who are not yet perimenopausal while Next Level is for women who are nearing perimenopause and beyond menopause. I personally will be reading both. While we will have an in person book club meeting in Feb, anyone can join and we will also have a private Facebook group  where discussions can take place. Please email me if you would like to take part in the Facebook discussion group or the local book club.

The farm has settled into the mild winter beautifully.  The winter cover crop is growing nicely and my 5 new Buff Brauma chickens made it through their 3 week quarantine and are now settling in with the original flock of 6.  The Braumas have just started laying eggs and I’m hoping that I will soon be averaging 8-9 eggs a day.

I will start growing seedlings under grow lights later this month and the chickens will begin working the cover crop into the garden soil the first week of Feb so that early season planting can begin in mid February.  I hope to have extra seedlings available for sale, but am not making any promises as I’m not entirely sure what to expect as this is my first attempt at growing indoors.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the farm this year.  Reach out with any questions, comments or suggestions.  I would love to hear from you.

All my best for 2024,

Kalee Tilli
